General Ambrose's Aromatic Bitters

* Note: In our recipes, 1 dropper refers to the natural amount of liquid the dropper draws, about 1/4-1/3 full, not a full dropper.

1 dropper is also equivalent to 1 dash from a shaker bottle of bitters, which is used in most recipes.

 

Soft Night

 

1.75 oz (52.5 ml) rye whiskey

0.5 oz (15 ml) Luxardo Amaro Abano

0.25 oz (7.5 ml) cinnamon simple syrup*

2 droppers Apothecary Bitters General Ambrose's Aromatic Bitters

Absinthe rinse

 

Twist of orange peel, for garnish

Add rye, Luxardo Amaro Abano, cinnamon simple syrup, and General Ambrose's aromatic bitters to a mixing glass with ice. Stir well.

Rinse a chilled old fashioned glass with Absinthe, dumping out the excess, and place a large ice cube into the glass.

Strain the mixing glass into the prepared old fashioned glass.

Flame the orange peel over the drink, rub the rim of the glass, then drop it in as a garnish.

 

*To make cinnamon simple syrup, combine in a small saucepan over medium-low heat:

1 cup water, 1 cup brown sugar and 1 stick of cinnamon.

Stir frequently until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let steep for 15 minutes. Cool and strain. Keep refrigerated.

 

 

 

Siberian Bear Hug

 

1 oz (30 ml) calvados

1 oz (30 ml) Campari

0.5 oz (15 ml) Cointreau

0.5 oz (15 ml) Fernet Branca

2 droppers Apothecary Bitters General Ambrose's aromatic bitters

orange twist, for garnish

Add calvados, Campari, Cointreau, Fernet Branca and General Ambrose's to a mixing glass with ice. Stir well, then strain into a chilled coupe. Twist the orange peel over the drink, rub the rim of the glass, then drop it in as a garnish.

 

 

 

Autumn Breeze

 

2 oz (60 ml) rye

0.25 oz (7.5 ml) Lapsang simple syrup*

3 droppers Apothecary Bitters Mystic Caravan bitters

2 droppers Apothecary Bitters General Ambrose's bitters

Laphroaig 10 yr, to rinse

 

Twist of orange peel, flamed

Add rye, lapsang simple syrup, Mystic Caravan, and General Ambrose's to a mixing glass with ice and stir well.

Rinse a chilled old fashioned glass with Laphroaig, pouring out excess, and add a large ice cube.

Strain mixing glass into prepared glass and flame an orange peel, dropping it into the cocktail after, skin side up.

 

*To make Lapsang simple syrup, combine in a small saucepan over medium heat:

1 cup water, 2 cups brown sugar.

Stir frequently until the sugar is dissolved and bring to a boil.

Remove from heat, add 4 tbsp of Lapsang Souchong tea and let steep for 10 minutes. Cool and strain. Keep refrigerated.
